Company description::
February 4, 2004 -- "Instead of seeking a fashion or beauty makeover, we should be focused on having a relationship makeover, which will ultimately make us happier and fulfilled," says relationship coach Steven Sacks, author of "The Mate Map: The Right Tool for Choosing the Right Mate" (www.matemap.com).

In "The Mate Map," Sacks shows singles how to create a personalized screening process (AKA "their Mate Map") and apply it to their specific situation, whether they are going on a first date or trying to decide if someone they are dating is relationship-worthy. The book is for men and women in their 20s, 30s, or 40s, who are single.

"Your dating success is only as good as your screening process," says Sacks. "Right now, most people have an inadequate screening process, as they date people based on two criteria -- being attracted to them and having a few hobbies in common. However, in order to make sure we are compatible with someone for the long-term, we need to create a screening process that is much more thorough."

Sacks says that in order to determine whether or not we've found "the one," we need to make sure we're compatible with a potential mate in four essential areas -– Chemistry, Physical Attraction, Love, and Personality. "The Mate Map" describes each of these four 'Relationship Essentials' in detail, and uncovers the truth behind several myths. For example, most people think that you either have chemistry with someone or you don't. But there are actually six different types of chemistry, and you can have a high level of chemistry with someone in one area, such as Sexual Chemistry, and a low level of chemistry in another area, such as Non-Verbal Communication.

Steven Sacks is available for interviews from February 4-14. Besides discussing the contents of "The Mate Map," Sacks also offers insightful advice and commentary on a variety of dating and relationship topics, such as:
- Figuring out your "dealbreakers" sooner rather than later
- How to prevent cheating and getting cheated on
- Giving physical attraction and chemistry a chance to develop
- Online Dating / Singles Events [Pros & Cons; Speed Dating; Post-It Parties]
- Reality dating shows [Why these relationships don't last; What Meredith "The Bachelorette" is looking for]
- Why people believe in love at first sight, although it doesn't really exist

Steven Sacks is a relationship coach, speaker, and author of "The Mate Map: The Right Tool for Choosing the Right Mate" (www.matemap.com). He is also an instructor at the Matchmaking Institute. Sacks and his Mate Map technique have been featured in such publications as the Chicago Tribune, Houston Chronicle, New York Post, Seventeen, and In Touch Weekly. In addition to his television appearances, he's been on dozens of radio shows across the country. Sacks splits his time between his hometown of New York City and Durham, North Carolina, with his fiancée--the first Mate Map success story.

The Mate Map: The Right Tool for Choosing the Right Mate (Banner, ISBN 0971388709, Hardcover, $24.95) is distributed to the trade by Ingram and Baker & Taylor in the United States, and Hushion House in Canada. The Mate Map will be published in Japan and China in Fall 2004. The Mate Map is available to consumers at bookstores everywhere, online at www.matemap.com and www.amazon.com, or by calling toll-free, 1-800-MATE-MAP (1-800-628-3627).
